As an artist I am driven by the complexity of human nature. We are physical and spiritual beings, where the spiritual and emotional side enhances the physical form. And I am drawn towards faces where personal emotional experience or thought seeps through the eyes, the posture, the facial lines to enhance the physical being.

I am passionate about my work and the world of art at large; there are many artists whom I love and respect. However, Vrubel and Goya appear to influence me the most. Not so much my style, rather, some of their paintings have a sense of life oozing from them and I try to achieve the same.

I hold a number of official diplomas, perhaps the most relevant one is in Romano-Germanic Philology, but none is in Fine Art. I developed my drawing techniques in the life drawing studio of June Jane (Devon, England), whom I hold in great reverence. I came to June knowing very little, if anything, about the art of drawing. However, her guidance, my dedication and our mutual attention to detail helped to flex my hand in the art of portraiture. As for painting techniques, I love to discover them myself avoiding any guidance. There is, after all, a great pleasure in discovering things for yourself.

I paint from life, from photos and from memory, and bring to life on a canvas faces that used to exist in my imagination only. Saying that, my preference is to draw from a live model as all the features I need to capture are there in 3 dimensions, and the personality is easier to decipher. My job is complete when the person I create on the canvas achieves their own life.
